When a Woman Finally Chooses Herself

When a Woman Chooses Herself

I’ve been witnessing something incredible.

Over the past several months, the same transformation has been unfolding inside my coaching container.

🟥 Different women.
🟥 Different stories.
🟥 Different zip codes.

Yet every one of them has arrived at the same place, at the same time.

And not because of anything outside of them changing.

Quite the contrary.

The change is inside of them.

They finally believe they're worth protecting.

There it is. I see it in their eyes.

I am witnessing in real time a complete and total identity shift that can not be faked. Its real and its felt.

"Everything changes the moment a woman decides her own peace is worth protecting." ☮️

What choosing yourself actually looks like

We hear the phrase “choose yourself” all the time.

But what does it actually mean?

It means deciding that your peace matters more to you than anyone else's.

That you are your own priority in that moment.

And that your mental and emotional health matter more than performance, pretending or pleasing.

And then…

Making a decision that honors YOU even when someone else...

🟥 Doesn’t like it
🟥 is disappointed or hurt by it
🟥 is shocked or angry about it.

That’s the hard part.

Choosing yourself is less about "screw them" and more about "I'VE GOT ME" and its not up for debate.

Because for so many women, we’ve spent decades believing that being a good woman means being agreeable, amenable and having no needs at all.

We're always taking one for the team.

Keeping the peace and

lets not leave out every woman's 2nd job handed to her at birth to prevent everyone around her from ever "feeling bad or uncomfortable".

Many of us became experts at caring and prioritizing the needs of others but what about YOU? Who is looking out for you?

Many times, no one. We're amazing at being martyrs, caretakers, fixers and pleasers but self-loving? its a foreign concept for most of my clients but once they learn this skill- look out because here she comes!

The cost of betraying ourselves over the years.

I believe God gave each of us one human life and said,

“Take good care of her.”

Yet so many women repeatedly neglect themselves while trying to make everyone else around them comfortable.

We say yes when we mean no.

We shut up when we should be speaking up.

We tolerate behavior that slowly chips away at our self-esteem.

We convince ourselves that their happiness is our responsibility.

It isn’t.

Read that again.

Their happiness is not your responsibility.

Not your child’s.

Not your partner’s.

Not your friend’s.

Every adult on the planet is responsible for their own happiness.

When we forget that, something begins to grow inside of us that steals our joy and peace.

Resentment.

Like a parasite, it grows one small self-betrayal at a time. Over the years, those betrayals compound into resentment, making it harder and harder to show up with love, generosity, and compassion for the very people we were trying so hard to protect in the first place. (the irony of it all)

What I’m watching women do

▪️ One woman chose self-respect and asked her adult son to leave the home.

▪️ Another woman said No to a dinner invite because she knew the table gossip and drama would cost her peace.

▪️ Another woman protected her own mental health by blocking communication with someone triggering her past trauma.

▪️ Another is dating again after heartbreak and has said NO to men she would have settled for just a few months ago.

From the outside, these look like ordinary decisions.

They’re not.

They’re identity shifts.

Each woman is saying without saying,

“I matter. And I'm not apologizing for choosing me.”

This is where confidence comes from

People often ask me how to become more confident.

Here’s what I've come to know after coaching hundreds of women.

Confidence isn’t something you think or feel your way into.

It’s something you build and grow through decisions.

▪️ Every time you keep a promise to yourself.

▪️ Every time you allow yourself to feel your emotions.

▪️ Every time you stop pretending and speak the hard truth.

▪️ Every time you trust your instincts and decide from there.

▪️ Every time you allow someone else to be hurt, angry or disappointed by your decisions because you know in your heart its the right move.

That’s where confidence grows and solidifies. Its like compounding interest.

Its not built in perfection, performance or approval.

Its built through courage and integrity in your decisions over time.

And as it builds the resentment parasite fades away little by little.

And what's left is the REAL YOU. Powerful, beautiful, and brave.

A question I’ve been sitting with

Many of the women I coach are in their 40s- 60s, and beyond.

They’re finally speaking truths they’ve held inside for decades.

They’re finally choosing self-respect over people-pleasing.

They’re finally trusting themselves.

And while I celebrate every single one of them…

I also find myself wondering…

Why does it take so many of us so long to believe we’re worth choosing?

I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts.

Hit reply and tell me…

When was the first time you truly chose yourself?

Or…

What’s one place in your life where you’re ready to start?

I read every single reply, and hearing your stories is one of my favorite parts of writing these newsletters.

With love,

Amy

👣 WALK YOUR TALK with Amy A Weekly Dose of Truth, Freedom & Love Stop Explaining and Over-Explaining I don’t need the whole damn story. I’m learning more and more that most explanations are HIGHLY unnecessary. And over-explanations? For God’s sake, can we PLEASE just eliminate them all together? I appreciate a short, simple yes or no and then maybe 1 short follow up sentence. How about you? I learned this years ago as a nurse manager. I used to run an entire hospital at night. I’ve decided I’m not waiting around for someone to enjoy life with. I’m kayaking, paddle-boarding, dancing, going to festivals, swimming, playing pickleball and talking to strangers everywhere I go. I’m trying new things and going solo most of the time except for when i take my dog with me! I’m...
