👣 WALK YOUR TALK with Amy
A Weekly Dose of Truth, Freedom & Love
She Restored My Faith in Love ❤️
I just finished a coaching journey with a woman who has completely restored my faith in LOVE.
And at 49 years old and single by choice for 7 years- I needed that reminder myself.
She’s 57 years old and eight months ago came to me heartbroken.
Today? She’s in the kind of relationship she’s wanted her entire life. Secure, Loving and Trusting. She's in love and fully grounded.
And I am still sitting here in awe of what happened.
Because if you had told either one of us eight months ago that THIS is where she would be today, I’m not sure we would have believed you.
Eight months ago, she was at rock bottom.
She wasn’t new to coaching with me. We had worked together several years earlier, and she came back after the painful ending of a long-term relationship.
She was devastated, shocked and heartbroken.
She had spent years loving a man who couldn’t give her the relationship she wanted.
She knew he wasn’t emotionally available in the ways she needed.
She knew SHE was accepting less than she deserved, "breadcrumbs" she called them.
And yet, she stayed anyway and in the end, he left. Sound familiar?
When the relationship ended, she wasn’t just grieving him. She was beating herself up for staying in something she knew was a dead end.
Why did I stay so long?
Why did I settle for such little effort?
How could I have known better and still done this to myself?
She recognized her anxious attachment patterns. The fear of abandonment. The need for reassurance. The way she could lose herself in trying like mad to change him.
And she was DONE living that way. She was ready to change and knew she needed support to do so.
She came into coaching with three goals:
1. Trust myself fully.
2. Find and use my voice.
3. Choose secure love.
Those were her goals. And oh, did she go after them.
First, she had to become her own safe place.
We didn’t start with dating profiles. We started with HER.
The woman underneath the heartbreak.
The little girl who learned that love was something she had to work hard to earn.
The woman who had spent years pleasing, over-giving, chasing and accepting breadcrumbs.
She learned to sit with loneliness instead of running from it.
To feel grief without judging herself for grieving.
To recognize when the fear of abandonment was causing anxiety inside of her and turn toward herself instead of desperately reaching for someone else to make it stop.
And I watched this woman begin to mother her own inner child with a fierceness and tenderness that was beautiful.
She became the loving, protective, trustworthy adult that little girl had always needed. She became her own safe haven.
And one day, she realized something: I don’t need a man. I’m already whole.
Not because she didn’t WANT love. She absolutely did. But she was no longer needing a man to make her feel worthy of love.
She started enjoying her life again. Spending quality time with her children, friends and neighbors. Spending time doing things she loved to do and traveling.
And then something unexpected happened.
When we started coaching, we BOTH had ideas about how healing was supposed to look.
Maybe she should stay single for a year?
Maybe she needed a long break from dating?
Maybe she should focus entirely on herself before even considering another relationship?
You know how we do that? We create all these rules about what healing SHOULD look like. But healing doesn’t always follow the timeline we make up in our heads.
She was changing. Week by week. Month by month. She was learning to trust herself and it was happening faster than I even anticipated.
And after five months of being single, grieving, growing and intentionally creating happiness in her own life, she felt ready to date.
So we talked about it and I challenged her to answer some tough questions.
Was she running from loneliness? No.
Was she looking for someone to rescue her? Hell No.
Was she genuinely ready to open her heart again and risk rejection along the way? YES.
And what I loved most was that she was trusting HERSELF to know the difference. She learned the art of discernment.
So we let go of the arbitrary timeline. She’s a grown woman. She gets to decide when she’s ready.
But this time, she dated differently.
And THIS is where it gets good.
She went online. She met men. And as luck would have it some of those same old patterns showed up.
Emotionally unavailable men.
Low effort.
Inconsistency.
Men who said one thing and did another.
The very same things she had spent years tolerating and organizing herself around.
Except this time? SHE was different.
She had standards. Boundaries. Non-negotiables. We got clear on every single one of them before she started dating.
And for the first time, she gave herself permission to have them!
A woman with standards is a confident woman who knows her worth.
She wasn’t dating to be CHOSEN anymore and she wasn’t trying to make a man into something he's not.
She was allowing the men to show themselves to her and she got to do the choosing!
She said NO.
She walked away instead of trying harder.
She trusted his actions over his words.
And every time she said no to what wasn’t right for her, she was practicing something new.
I can trust myself.
I don’t have to earn love.
I can want a relationship without abandoning myself to have one.
And then…
… along came this incredible man. ❤️
Both, a leader and a gentleman.
Kind. Consistent. Emotionally mature. Loving. Attentive.
A man whose words and actions match.
A man who doesn’t need her to perform, chase, convince or become someone else. He loved her for her and she for him.
And here’s what I love most.
She isn’t suddenly a perfectly healed woman who never gets triggered. She’s very HUMAN in this relationship.
Sometimes her anxious parts still show up.
Sometimes she gets scared and insecure.
Sometimes old patterns whisper in her ear.
But now she recognizes them.
She knows how to take responsibility for her anxiety in the relationship and voice her needs and concerns with honesty and vulnerability.
She can tell him the truth about what she’s feeling instead of hiding it, testing him or trying to manage his response.
And best of all- she is learning how to RECEIVE love.
Not just give it. RECEIVE IT. She feels safe. Seen. Desired.
And ladies, can we also celebrate that at 57 years old, this woman is having the BEST SEX OF HER LIFE?!
I mean, COME ON. How beautiful is that?
Who knew what was waiting right around the corner from heartbreak?
This is the part that gets me emotional.
Eight months ago, this woman was sitting in heartbreak.
Questioning herself. Feeling like a fool. Like she had wasted so much time.
Regretting the years she had spent in a relationship that couldn’t give her what she needed.
And today? She's forever grateful to the man who broke her heart.
Because now... she’s experiencing the kind of love she once wondered if she’d ever find, all thanks to heartbreak first.
She’s talking about a future with a man who genuinely wants to build one with her and she would never have become the woman who could receive him if she stayed where she was.
And I got to witness the whole transformation.
I got to watch a woman stop trying to earn love and start loving herself and choosing herself over and over again.
And then open her heart to someone else who could actually meet her at her new level.
She didn’t just find secure love. She learned how to BECOME the WOMAN who could hold it.
And I think that’s the greatest accomplishment of all.
Sometimes life turns out better than we could ever imagine.
Who knew that the very heartbreak she NEVER WANTED would lead her to a love she NEVER IMAGINED POSSIBLE?
If you’re in a season of heartbreak, disappointment or wondering whether the best parts of your life are behind you, I want to leave you with this:
You have NO IDEA what's in store. What if your BEST years are all in front of you and not behind you?
What would you need to let go of to fully believe that could be true for you?
Please don’t decide the ending of your story while you’re still in the middle of it.
With love,
Amy
